Congratulations to our students Nicholas Larsen and Yury Onikashvilli for their outstanding results on the Canadian Conservatory’s contemporary guitar exams!  Both were the best in all of B.C. for their respective grades, Larsen, age 15, for grade 4 contemporary idioms and Onikashvilli, age 11, for the same category in grade 1.  We are so proud!

Rossi Tzonkov’s New Vancouver Trio to Play Kino Cafe Nov. 21st

November 17, 2011
Guitar4

Our bass/guitar teacher Rossi Tzonkov’s New Vancouver Trio (a very accurate name!) are playing at the Kino Cafe in Vancouver at 3456 Cambie Street Monday, November 21st.  The gig starts at 8pm but make sure you get there early to get a seat.

NVT describe themselves as follows:

The idea behind this project is rearranging some of the music from the modern classical guitar repertoire adding a strong rhythmical structure instead of the “rubato” feel. Most of the music coming from the regions of Cuba, Brazil and Argentina have a strong rhythmical pulse which is normally understated as our classical guitar training focuses our attention on the musical phrase while performing it. Well, we’re trying to do both – integrating a powerful rhythm with an intricate phrase. We have put together all our different backgrounds, training and experience and poured it into our creative interpretation. We let our imagination run wild and we hope you enjoy it!
